A CONFRONTATION

Confrontation focuses on strategies of perspective and creating depth within a 2D image. The square pillars the two characters stand on show depth and distance by disappearing to their own vanishing points on a plane, and as you look to the lamb further away, the details start to get fuzzy and lighter. The water starts to get slimmer and more reflective as it gets closer to the horizon line, and the clouds start to disappear off to the distance. Due to perspective, the lamb looks far smaller than it actually is, it towers over Marcille when on the same plane.

The use of line drawing was done to mimic the look of manga panels and give it a graphic feel. the lines follow how the form would flow and contour, specifically seen in the hair and skirt. The sky and water were drawn with opposing directions of lines, vertical and horizontal respectively, to make it clear where one started and the other began when they meet in the middle of the image.

The story of the image is inspired by the manga and anime Dungeon Meshi, or Delicious in Dungeon in English. Deep within the dungeons lay demons, who take the forms of innocent animals. While innocent in appearance, the demons are the final fight within the manga's story line, and they are far more powerful than they appear, able to shift reality to their will. Marcille, the elf mage, faces off against one of these demons within the realm it has created.
