PROCESS
I read through each article to get ideas for them.
For Commitment and Commanding, the article was about some of the organizations at Millikin University, and what it's leaders love about each of them. There are 3 clubs specifically mentioned, Gregory, a tap dancing group, the Latin America Student Organization (LASO), and Physical Graffiti. I decided to take elements from each of these specific clubs to form the decorative elements. I chose a dark light esque color palette, but lightened it considerably to make it easier on the eyes and follow the no neon rule given to us. I looked at LASO's own design style, a saw a common flower motif, and so incorporated the idea of flower stencil spray paint to match graffiti. For LASO I also added Papel picado, a Mexican paper cutting decoration. To represent tap dancing, I added graffiti circles to resemble stylized waves from tapping something. I was also able to get a photo featuring Gregory to use in the article.
Changes made that weren’t mine: the addition of a photo from physical graffiti, and the removal of a quote. I agree with these changes, but I take no credit for them
Discovering love is about the authors journey to discovering aromanticism, a story relatable to me because I am aromantic. Taking inspiration from the elements of finding your own path to design a path of foot prints which eventually form a branching path, showing the multiple different paths one can go while they learn who they are, and how they don't have to follow one "correct" path. I chose a primarily green color palette due to green being the color associated with aromantics, and a complimentary purple to be cohesive.
